Pilgrimage Tours
Across India
Char Dham, the twelve Jyotirlingas, the Shakti Peethas and the great river cities — arranged with the permits, timings and protocol each one demands.
Pilgrimage Is Not Ordinary Travel
A yatra makes demands a holiday does not. Shrines open and close to their own calendar. Some sit at altitude and ask something of your body. Several require permits, and a few require the kind of local standing that cannot be arranged from a call centre in another state. Getting a pilgrimage wrong is not an inconvenience — it means arriving at a closed door after a very long journey.
We plan these routes as pilgrimage rather than as sightseeing with temples in it. That means darshan timings you can actually keep, accommodation close enough to the shrine to matter at four in the morning, food that respects the observances your journey involves, and a pace set for the oldest and least mobile person travelling rather than the fittest.
We arrange journeys for travellers of every faith and of none: devotees making a vow, families honouring a parent, and visitors who come to these places as architecture and living history. We do not require you to explain which you are.

The Circuits We Run
Eleven circuits in all. These four account for most of what we are asked to arrange.

Char Dham Yatra
Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, with helicopter segments for travellers who cannot manage the Kedarnath trek.
See the itinerary
The twelve Jyotirlingas
From Somnath on the Gujarat coast to Rameswaram at the southern tip — twelve shrines scattered across nine states.
See the itinerary
The Shakti Peethas
The seats of the goddess, spread from Kashmir to Assam — and a natural extension for travellers coming to Bengal in October.
See the itinerary
Tamil temple towns
Madurai, Thanjavur, Chidambaram and Rameswaram — the greatest concentration of living Dravidian architecture anywhere.
See the itineraryWe also run Somnath and Dwarka, Pushkar and Ajmer, Varanasi at Mahashivratri, the Magh Mela at Prayagraj, the Buddhist circuit at Bodh Gaya and the Golden Temple at Guru Nanak Jayanti. Background reading sits in our Temples of India guide — 120 shrines across 45 pages, with Char Dham, Jyotirlinga and architecture explained separately.
What We Handle That Others Do Not
Permits and registration
Char Dham requires state registration and biometric checks; Kedarnath helicopter seats are separately allocated and sell out months ahead. We hold these before you arrive.
Darshan timing
Shrines have queue systems, special-entry arrangements and closure windows that shift with the lunar calendar. We plan around them rather than discovering them at the gate.
Altitude and fitness
Kedarnath sits at 3,583 m and Badrinath at 3,133 m. We build acclimatisation into the routing, and say frankly when a circuit is unwise for someone in your party.
Accommodation near the shrine
In the Himalayan dhams that often means a modest room within walking distance rather than a better hotel an hour away. We are clear about that trade-off in advance.
Observance and diet
Satvik and vegetarian catering, fasting days, and the dress and conduct each shrine expects — including where cameras, leather and phones are not permitted.
Support for older travellers
Palanquin, pony and porter arrangements where the last stretch is on foot, and a pace that does not treat the yatra as an endurance event.
When to Go
Season decides more here than anywhere else in Indian travel. Several of these circuits simply close.
| Circuit | Window | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Char Dham | May – Oct | Opens around Akshaya Tritiya, closes near Diwali. July and August carry real landslide risk in Garhwal. |
| Amarnath | Jul – Aug | A short, tightly regulated season with registration required well in advance. |
| Southern temple circuits | Nov – Feb | The heat relents and the great festival calendar of the south is at its fullest. |
| Varanasi & the Ganga | Nov – Mar | Winter mornings are the reward; late December and January fog can disrupt travel. |
| Magh Mela, Prayagraj | Jan – Feb | Annual, with the Kumbh on its own longer cycle. |
Dated observances for the year ahead are on our 2026 festival calendar, and bookable festival journeys are gathered on India festival tours.

Answered Plainly
Char Dham in Uttarakhand, the twelve Jyotirlingas, the Shakti Peethas, Somnath and Dwarka, Pushkar and Ajmer, the Tamil Nadu temple towns, Varanasi and the Ganga cities, the Buddhist circuit at Bodh Gaya, Sarnath and Nalanda, and Sikh pilgrimage to the Golden Temple at Amritsar. We also build combined and custom yatras.
The four Himalayan shrines open around Akshaya Tritiya in late April or early May and close near Diwali in October or November. Our full Char Dham itinerary runs twelve nights. May, June, September and October are the practical windows; July and August carry a real landslide risk in the Garhwal Himalaya.
Many are, with the right planning. We set the pace for the least mobile person in the party, build in acclimatisation days at altitude, and arrange palanquin, pony or porter support where the final approach is on foot. Some shrines are genuinely demanding, and we will say so plainly rather than sell you a circuit that will not go well.
Yes. Char Dham requires state registration and biometric checks, Kedarnath helicopter seats are separately allocated and sell out well in advance, and several Himalayan and North East routes need inner-line permits. We obtain these before you travel.
Yes. We arrange these journeys for travellers of every faith and of none. A small number of inner sanctums restrict entry to Hindus, which we flag clearly in the itinerary so nobody is turned away at the door, and everything else on the circuit remains open.
Yes. Satvik and vegetarian catering is arranged throughout where the journey calls for it, fasting days are accommodated, and we brief you in advance on the dress and conduct each shrine expects, including where cameras, leather and mobile phones are not permitted.
Our published pilgrimage journeys start at USD 333₹32,000EUR 294GBP 252 per person and run to USD 885₹85,000EUR 781GBP 669 depending on the circuit, the number of nights and whether helicopter or pony sectors are involved. Every price is per person, land only.
Uttarakhand Char Dham, at 12 nights. The shortest published pilgrimage is 4 nights.
Yes, with planning. We build in rest days at altitude, arrange palki, pony or helicopter sectors where a trek is involved, and keep the day’s driving short. Tell us about mobility at the enquiry stage and the itinerary is written around it.
We arrange whatever the temple itself permits — puja bookings, special darshan where an official channel exists, and the timings that keep queues manageable. We do not sell ‘VIP darshan’ at temples where no official route for it exists.
Yes. Pure vegetarian, Jain and sattvik requirements are all routine on our pilgrimage circuits, and we confirm them with every property in advance.
The Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib shrines open in late April or May and close for winter around Diwali, with exact dates announced each year by the temple committees. The monsoon months of July and August carry landslide risk on the mountain roads.
Often, and naturally. Varanasi pairs with Sarnath, Puri with Konark, Amritsar with the Wagah border, and Madurai with the wider Tamil temple country.
For the Char Dham and for festival dates, three to four months ahead. Hotel capacity near the shrines is small and helicopter seats sell out first.

Planning From Abroad
Flying in for this?
Visas, flight routings, the months that actually work around your school terms, and what a journey costs once it is converted — set out for the three countries we are asked about most.
