Coastal Odisha holds one of India's greatest concentrations of temple art. Bhubaneswar, the temple city, has hundreds of sandstone shrines; Konark's thirteenth-century Sun Temple - a colossal stone chariot of the sun god - is among the finest monuments in Asia; and Puri is one of the four holy Char Dham, home to Lord Jagannath.
We add the living arts - the pattachitra painters of Raghurajpur, the appliqué of Pipili - and the natural wonder of Chilika, Asia's largest brackish lagoon, where Irrawaddy dolphins surface and winter flamingos gather in their thousands.
It is a rich, under-travelled corner of the east, full of art, devotion and birdlife.
Odisha's 'Golden Triangle' strings together the spiritual and the sublime. Bhubaneswar, the temple city, holds hundreds of shrines spanning a thousand years, led by the great Lingaraja; Puri is home to the mighty Jagannath temple and its broad beach; and Konark crowns it with the Sun Temple. Between them lie the caves of Udayagiri and the craft villages of a deeply artistic state.
