India Wildlife
Safari Tours
Tigers, one-horned rhinos and the last wild Asiatic lions — with premium lodges, permits held in advance and naturalists who actually know the park.
Safari Is Won or Lost at the Booking Stage
Wildlife travel in India is unusually unforgiving of late planning. Jeep permits for the core zones are allocated in advance and released on a fixed schedule; the good lodges near the best gates fill months out; and the difference between a productive drive and a frustrating one is very often which zone you are permitted into and which naturalist is in the vehicle.
A permit for the wrong zone on the right day is worse value than no safari at all.
So we hold permits early, book lodges by their proximity to the gate that matters rather than by brochure appeal, and request naturalists by name where we have a relationship. We also plan for more drives than most operators: sightings are probabilistic, and three or four game drives across two full days materially improve your odds over a single overnight stop.
What we will not do is promise a sighting. Anyone who does is selling something they do not control.
India's Great Parks
Four flagship destinations, each for a different animal and a different landscape.

Ranthambore
India's most reliable tiger park for a first safari, with ruins and lakes that make even a quiet drive worthwhile. Combines easily with the Rajasthan palace circuit.
See the itinerary
Kaziranga
Roughly two-thirds of the world's one-horned rhinos, plus wild elephant, swamp deer and excellent birding across floodplain grassland.
See the itinerary
Gir
The only place on earth with wild Asiatic lions. Permits are tightly limited, so this one genuinely has to be booked early.
See the itinerary
The Sundarbans
Tiger country by boat rather than jeep, through the world's largest mangrove forest. Low sighting odds, extraordinary landscape — and three hours from our Kolkata office.
See the itineraryWe also arrange Bandhavgarh — the highest tiger density in India — alongside Khajuraho and Orchha, and Periyar in Kerala for elephant and a gentler introduction to Indian wildlife.
When Each Park Is Open
Most Indian parks close for the monsoon. Season and month decide sighting odds more than anything else you control.
| Park | Season | Best months and why |
|---|---|---|
| Ranthambore | Oct – Jun | April to June: hot, but water is scarce and animals concentrate at the lakes, which sharply improves sightings. |
| Bandhavgarh | Oct – Jun | Similar pattern. Highest tiger density in India; February to April is the sweet spot. |
| Kaziranga | Nov – Apr | Grass is shorter and visibility better later in the season; the park closes for the monsoon. |
| Gir | Dec – Mar | Comfortable temperatures and reliable activity. Permits are limited year-round. |
| Sundarbans | Nov – Feb | Cooler and drier, with the calmest water for boat-based tracking. |
If tigers are the priority and you can tolerate heat, April to June is materially the best window across the central Indian parks — most travellers avoid it, which is precisely why it works.
What a Safari Journey Includes
Permits held in advance
Core-zone jeep permits booked as soon as the window opens, not requested on arrival.
Lodges chosen by gate
Proximity to the right entry gate matters more than the brochure. We book accordingly.
Private jeep and naturalist
Your own vehicle, and naturalists requested by name where we have the relationship.
More drives, not fewer
Sightings are probabilistic. We build in three or four game drives rather than a single overnight stop.
Realistic expectations
We tell you the actual odds for your park and season. Nobody can promise a tiger.
Combined with the wider trip
Ranthambore pairs with Rajasthan, Kaziranga with Assam's tea gardens, the Sundarbans with Kolkata.

Answered Plainly
Ranthambore in Rajasthan offers the most reliable sightings for a first safari and combines easily with the palace circuit. Bandhavgarh in Madhya Pradesh has the highest tiger density in the country and rewards a longer stay. The Sundarbans in Bengal is tiger country by boat through mangrove forest — the sighting odds are low, but the landscape is unlike anywhere else.
Most parks run October to June and close for the monsoon. If tigers are the priority, April to June is materially the best window across the central Indian parks: water is scarce, animals concentrate at waterholes, and sightings improve sharply. It is hot, which is why most travellers avoid it. Kaziranga runs November to April and Gir is best December to March.
No, and we would be wary of anyone who does. Sightings are probabilistic and nobody controls them. What we do control is the things that shift the odds: permits for the right zones, lodges near the right gate, experienced naturalists, and enough game drives across enough days to give you a genuine chance rather than one roll of the dice.
Two full days at a park, giving three or four game drives, is the realistic minimum. A single overnight stop with one drive is a lottery ticket. For a dedicated wildlife trip, most travellers combine two parks across eight to twelve nights, often with a cultural region in between.
Yes. Core-zone jeep permits, park entry fees, the vehicle and the naturalist are all included in what we quote, and we book the permits as soon as the allocation window opens. Gir in particular has tightly limited permits, so early booking matters there more than anywhere.
Easily, and most travellers do. Ranthambore sits naturally within a Rajasthan itinerary, Kaziranga pairs with Assam's tea gardens and the North East, Bandhavgarh combines with Khajuraho and Orchha, and the Sundarbans is three hours from Kolkata and pairs with a Bengal journey.
Our published wildlife journeys start at USD 187₹18,000EUR 165GBP 142 per person and run to USD 994₹95,500EUR 877GBP 752 with lodges, safaris and naturalist guiding as set out on each itinerary.
Ranthambore and Bandhavgarh have the most reliable sighting records of the parks we run, and the drier months from March to May are when the odds are highest. No honest operator guarantees a sighting.
Most close for the monsoon, roughly from July to the end of September, and some tiger reserve core zones longer. The timing section on this page sets out each park.
Four to six drives. Sightings are a matter of probability, and each additional drive in a different zone improves the odds more than moving to another park would.
Yes, and for the popular parks the day the booking window opens. We book the jeep permits on your behalf as soon as your dates are confirmed.
Generally yes, though some parks set their own age rules for safari vehicles and a four-hour drive is long for small children. We plan shorter days and suitable lodges for families.
Easily. Ranthambore sits between Jaipur and Agra, and three nights there fits naturally into a Delhi, Agra and Jaipur journey.
Our published safari journeys run from 2 to 7 nights.
