India Festival
Tour Packages
The great festivals are the best and the hardest weeks to travel in India. Dates move, hotels vanish, and access is everything. We plan for all three.
Festivals Need Planning, Not Booking
A festival is the single best way to see India and the single worst week to improvise. The dates follow lunar calendars and move every year. Hotels in the host city sell out six to nine months ahead and then reprice what remains. Roads close, transport strains, and the difference between a memorable trip and a frustrating one comes down to whether somebody local secured your access before you arrived.
A vantage point on a procession route, entry before the queue, a seat where the ritual is actually visible — this is the part that cannot be bought at the gate.
That is the work we do. We confirm dates as soon as the calendar fixes them, hold rooms early at properties positioned for the events rather than merely nearby, and arrange the ground access that is not purchasable on arrival.
This page is where the bookable journeys live. If you are still deciding when to travel rather than what to book, our 2026 festival calendar is the reference: every festival, month by month, with dates and regions.
Durga Puja, Kolkata
Kolkata's Durga Puja is the festival we know best in the world. We have documented it every year since 2019, two years before UNESCO inscribed it on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and we are based in the city where it happens.
For five days each autumn Kolkata becomes an open-air gallery on a scale with no real parallel: thousands of temporary pavilions, commissioned from artists and architects, built to be seen for a week and dismantled. Durga Puja 2027 falls on 5–10 October, with Mahalaya on 30 September (provisional dates).
We publish twelve packages for it. Full detail, day-by-day structure and pricing sit on the Durga Puja 2027 page, and travellers arriving from overseas should also read Durga Puja for international travellers, which covers the e-Visa, flights into Kolkata, payment, insurance, safety and what to wear.

How We Plan a Festival Journey
We fix the date first
Most Indian festivals follow lunar calendars, so the Gregorian date shifts annually and is often confirmed late. The itinerary is built around the observance.
We hold hotels early
In festival cities the good rooms go six to nine months out and what remains reprices sharply. Booking late usually means paying more for less.
We arrange access, not tickets
A vantage point on the route, entry before the crowd, a guide who can explain what is happening as it happens.
We build the wider journey
Most travellers come for three to five festival days and continue elsewhere — Durga Puja with Darjeeling, Pushkar with the palaces, Hemis with a full Ladakh circuit.
Festival Tour Packages
Every festival journey we publish, with its length and its starting price side by side, so you can compare them without opening twenty-three tabs.

Answered Plainly
Durga Puja 2027 falls on 5–10 October, with Mahalaya on 30 September (provisional until the Bengali almanacs are published). We publish twelve packages for the festival. Kolkata hotels for that week sell out well in advance and reprice sharply as the date approaches, so the earliest enquiries get the widest choice — contact us and we will tell you honestly what is open.
The festival calendar is a reference: every major Indian festival, month by month, with 2026 dates and the regions each one belongs to. It answers when something falls. This page is the commercial counterpart — the bookable journeys we run around those festivals, with what is included and how each is planned. Most travellers use the calendar to choose a date and this page to choose a trip.
Durga Puja in Kolkata and the Pushkar Camel Fair are the two easiest first festivals: both are visually extraordinary, both are comfortable to attend with good planning, and both pair naturally with a wider journey. Holi is wonderful but physically boisterous, and the Kumbh Mela is an enormous undertaking better attempted once you know India a little.
Six to nine months for the major festivals. Hotel inventory in the host city is finite, the strongest properties go first, and what remains climbs steeply in price. For less-attended regional festivals, three to four months is usually comfortable.
Yes, for most of them. Indian festivals largely follow lunar calendars, so the Gregorian date moves annually and is sometimes confirmed only a few months ahead. Our festival calendar carries the fixed 2026 dates, and we build itineraries around the observance rather than a provisional date.
Major festivals draw very large crowds, which is part of what makes them worth attending. Planning is what makes them comfortable: accommodation within walking distance, transfers timed away from processions, arranged vantage points, and a guide with you throughout. We brief you in advance on dress, conduct and how to handle the busiest hours.
Our 23 published festival journeys start at USD 396₹38,000EUR 349GBP 299 per person and run to USD 885₹85,000EUR 781GBP 669. Prices are higher on the festival nights themselves than on the same route a week later, because hotels price the dates.
Three to six months for the big festivals — Durga Puja, Diwali, Holi, Pushkar and Hornbill. Rooms close to the action sell out first, and those are the rooms worth having.
No. Most Hindu festivals follow the lunar calendar and move by two to three weeks from year to year. We confirm the dates against the panchang each year before we publish a departure.
Yes, with local handling. Crowds are the real consideration, not safety as such — which is why our festival itineraries hold viewing positions, avoid the busiest roads on the peak nights and keep a named person on WhatsApp with you.
4 nights. The longest is 7 nights.
Where the calendar allows. Durga Puja and Diwali fall three weeks apart in autumn, and Pushkar and Dev Deepawali both fall on Kartik Purnima — so some combinations work and some are physically impossible.
Every one can. Some also run as small-group departures on the festival dates; the rest are private on your own dates.
Festivals reward early planning
Hotels around a major festival sell out months ahead and reprice steeply as the date approaches. Tell us which festival interests you and we will tell you honestly what is still available.
We reply within 24 hours and quote in INR, USD, EUR, GBP, SGD or AED. Planning is free and unlimited — see Booking With Confidence.
